Before Us

Bride's parents
My parents also met in a very unexpected way. It was May 1980 and my dad, who was 17 at the time, arrived at my mom’s house, who was 15 at the time. He was looking for an aunt who was organizing a party called “Las Damas del Cesar y La Guajira”, with the objective of collecting funds for those with few resources back in La Guajira. When my dad knocked at the door my mom was the one who answered. A couple seconds after, when my aunt walked out to hand him the tickets, my dad decided he would buy them all himself under one condition, that my mom be his date to the party. Eight days later, my dad and his best friend went to pick up my mom and aunt Sole. That night they danced and enjoyed an unforgettable evening together, without imagining they were beginning their love story.
After a couple of dates, they officially became a couple on June 3 of that same year at an ice cream spot called Helados Holanda, located in Bogota. They began dating in secret because my mom wasn't allowed to have a boyfriend. As the time passed, they continued to strengthen their relationship with beautiful memories and adventures, always with the music of Diomedes Diaz in the background.
Groom's parents
My parents met in 1991, when my dad was the chief of Medical Services for Retired Texaco workers at the Shaio Clinic in Bogota. At the time my mom was the coordinator of contracts at Texaco. They met working together while preparing to renew the contract with the clinic. Towards the end of that year my dad was transferred over to the main office and my mom to the Human Resources Department, strengthening their work relationship. My aunt Adri, my mom’s sister, played an important role in their story. Fast forward to 1995, my dad started to court my mom, but she didn’t bat an eye since she never had wanted a relationship with someone she worked with. Finally after many failed invites, and with my aunt’s insistence, my mom decided to go on a date with him. On their first date, they discovered that they had an incredible connection, the conversation flowed and they learned they had the same gastronomic and cultural tastes. That’s how, five months later, they formalized things and started dating

Bride's parents
Just a little time afterwards, my parents formalized things with my grandparents and in 1983 my dad decided to take the big step and proposed to my mom at her parents house, in company of all of the family.
Finally, on June 23, 1984 they got married at the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, in the town of Hatonuevo, La Guajira and the held their reception at my maternal grandfather’s house.
Today, after 41 years together, they have formed a beautiful family, have had three daughters and built a home filled with love and challenges but more than anything, happiness.
Groom's parents
Quickly they fell in love and in March of 1996 they already saw a future together. So on April 1 1996 my mom traveled to the US to get her american residency and take a three month course sponsored by Texaco. In her absence my dad talked with his parents to tell them he planned on getting married and had planned a whole trip to New Jersey where he would propose to my mom. On May 9 was the elected day, at Medieval Times in Lyndhurst, NJ, they got engaged.
Finally on October 5 of 1996 they got married at Capilla de Los Santos Apóstoles of Gimnasio Moderno, and held the reception at the Air Force Officers' Club in Bogota.
Today they have shared 29 years happily married, have formed a beautiful family, teaching my brother and I about unselfishness, commitment and true happiness.
